Bible Verse about Revenge

Bible Verse of the Day April 8, 2013

Matthew 5:38-39

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.”

Message:

When someone harm us, the first thing we like to do is to take revenge on them. We plan and take steps on how to hurt them back. Is that what God taught us to do? No…

Though you would have heard about the old saying, an eye for an eye, God has only taught us to forgive each other so that we may receive God’s forgiveness. And so He says, when someone slaps you on one cheek, show them your other cheek too. Such an act will make the person who harm you to regret and realize his mistake. Harm for harm will do no good to you, but forgiveness means a lot. Forgiveness changes a person’s nature. Forgiveness gives a person a chance to turn away from doing evil. Forgiveness will return love.

Let’s live in peace and harmony with each other. Resist doing evil and forgive each other.

  1. Of course this didn’t mean we should lie down and be taken advantage of and be trampled over by those who wish to harm us without them realizing their wrong doing.

  2. Hmmm, “Turn the other check”. As much as I understand this verse, I still have a question please, How do one “Turn The Other Check” with what is happening in Nigerian Northern states now in which from all indication, the Islamic governance is secretly dancing to the gallery. If we as Christians choose to protect our selves by giving reprisal attack( bcos dat might be our next move), do we say we’ve contradict the scripture? ANSWER PLEASE

  3. Dear Brother Ibrahim,

It is true that we are living in a world of betrayals, domination and revenge.

But as this Bible verse say, do not resist an evil person, because he will do more evil against you.

Remember, Romans 12:19, “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” Leave everything to God and He will pay them back.

Give a person an opportunity to realize his mistake, if he does not realize it, leave it in God’s hands.

Our God is a God of Justice and He will pay them back.

    God bless you!

  4. Hi Stephen, I was wondering if I could receive my daily bible verse in a text on my phone. The reason I’m asking is because I rarely check my email! If so my number is (662) 436-7772

    Thanks, Catina Dobbs
